Johannes H. Krehbiel, Sohn von Jacob und Magdalena Schnebele Krehbiel, ward am 17. April 1880 [sic 1860] zu Donnellson, Iowa geboren und starb im Hospital in Keokuk, Iowa am 14. Januar 1945 im Alter von 84 J. 8 M. und 27 Tagen. Bis 1911 wohnte er auf der heimatlichen Farm NW von Donnellson. 1910 bauten er und seine Schwester Katharina sich ein Heim in Donnellson, zogen 1911 hinein und wohnten bis Dez. 1944 da, bis Krankheit es unmöglich machte den Haushalt fortzuführen. Der Heimgerufene kam dann ins Hospital und ward da von seinen Leiden erlöst. Auf Bekenntnis ward er am 5. Okt 1873 von Aelt. Chr. Schowalter getauft und war dan lebenslänglich Glied der Zion Mennonitengemeinde. Vier Geschwister gingen ihm voran, und 4 leben noch: Katharina E. Krehbiel, Fairview, Mich.; Frau Anna Galle, Moundridge, Kans.; Frau Emma Bachmann, Woodlake, Calif.; Frau Elsie Handrich, Fairview, Mich. und viele Freunde. Beim Begräbnis am 17. Januar war kurze Andacht im Heim von J. G. Krehbiel und ein Quartett sang “So nimm denn meine Hände. In der Kirche sprach Pred. Nunemaker, Text Ps. 90: 12. Bestattung auf dem Gemeinde Friedhof. Zwei Neffen, Elmer und Oliver Handrich, aus Michigan waren zugegen.

JOHN H. KREHBIEL

John H. Krehbiel, son of Jacob III., and Lena Schneble Krehbiel, was born near Donnellson, Iowa, April 17, 1860, and died at the Graham hospital, Keokuk, Iowa, January 14, 1945, at the age of 84 years, 8 months and 27 days.

Through his entire lifetime until 1911 he lived on the home farm northwest of Donnellson where he gained distinction as a raiser of blooded poultry and hogs. In 1910 he and sister, Katie, built a home in Donnellson and the following year they moved into their new home. For a total of sixty years they lived together. Their home was broken up only about a month ago when illness made it impossible to continue housekeeping. Since that time he had been a patient at the graham hospital until death relieved his suffering.

He received the instruction provided by the church and was baptized and became a member of the Zion Mennonite church, by the late Rev. Showalter on October 5, 1873, remaining a member of the church to the time of his death.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mrs. Mary Galle. Four sisters survive him: Katie E., Fairview, Mich., Mrs. Anna Galle, Moundridge, Kan., Mrs. Eliza Handrich, Fairview, Mich., and Mrs. Emma Bachman, Woodlake, Calif., besides a number of nieces and nephews and many other relatives.

Funeral services were held at the Zion Mennonite church January 17 at 2 p. m., Rev. H. E. Nunemaker officiating. A quartet composed of Mrs. Ernest Krehbiel, Mrs. F. T. Gaylord, H. A. Lowenberg and H. F. Krebill sang "Take Thou My Hand O Father" in the J. G. Krehbiel home where short services were held at 1:30 o'clock and in the church, "Abide With Me" and "Asleep in Jesus. They were accompanied by Miss Hilda Krehbiel.

The body was laid to rest in the Mennonite cemetery. Pall bearers were R. J. Krebill, Harry Krebill, Robert Krehbiel, Ernest Krehbiel, R. T. Lowenberg and Edgar Weber.

Relatives from a distance attending the funeral services were Elmer and Olver Handrich of Fairview, Michigan.
