Christian R. Krehbiel

Christian R. Krehbiel, son of Daniel and Elisabeth Krehbiel, was born at Christian, Kansas, on November 14, 1877, and died at Moundridge, Kansas, August 17, 1934, at the age of 56 ears [sic], 9 months and 3 days. On the farm one mile south of Moundridge, where he was born, he had his home throughout life. At this place his father passed away over 32 years ago and here only a little over 7 weeks ago his aged mother departed from this life.

Brother Krehbiel was educated in the Moundridge schools. Later he attended Bethel College and still later he studied Jewelry and Optometry in Philadelphia. For a number of years he followed this trade in Moundridge. He also spent some time in the study of medicine.

On April 17, 1892, he was baptized and united with the First Mennonite church of Christian where he held his membership until death. He was an active worker in the church and at the time of his death was one of the trustees of the congregation.

A little over a year ago he suffered a paralytic stroke and as a result was bedfast for a number of months. Then his health began to improve and soon he was able to be about and to enter into some activities. On Friday, August 17, he was overcome with a severe heart attack and in a short time life became extinct. He leaves to mourn his departure one brother, Jacob C. Krehbiel of Tacoma, Washington, and four sisters all of Moundridge, namely, Mrs. D. M. Vogt, Mrs. Sam Reusser, Mrs. A. H. Kaufman and Miss Katie Krehbiel.

Funeral services were held from the First Mennonite church of Christian at Moundridge, Kansas, on August 20, 1934. Interment was made in the church cemetery. The pastor, Rev. P. P. Wedel was in charge.
