Christian D. Krehbiel

Christian D. Krehbiel, son of Daniel and Freni Krehbiel, was born in Horodisch, Russia, on February 27, 1863, and answered the call of his heavenly Father at his home at 12:45 Thursday morning, June 20, 1940, at the age of 77 years, 8 months and 22 days.

At the age of eleven he came with his parents to America settling near Marion, South Dakota. At the age 16, in 1879, he was baptized upon the confession of his faith by the Rev. Jacob Stucky and was received into the Salem Mennonite Church of Marion, south Dakota.

In 1883 he came to McPherson County, Kansas, and two years later to Reno county where he has since made his home.

He was one of the early settlers here and assisted in organizing the First Mennonite Church of Pretty Prairie of which he has remained a faithful and active member.

On November 25, 1888, he was united in marriage to Fannie C. Krehbiel and in 1938 they were privileged to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary. Their union was blessed with 7 children, 3 of which have preceded him in death. On April 22, 1940, he became ill with heart trouble, and all medical aid could not relieve his suffering. His Heavenly Father answered his prayer for relief and called him Home.

He leaves to mourn, but not as such that have no hope, his loving wife; three sons, Edmund D. of Hutchinson, Gustav H. of Eire and Fred H. of Pretty Prairie; one daughter, Mrs. J. J. Kaufman of Moundridge; one foster daughter, Mrs. Joe Wenzel of Oklahoma City; three brothers, one sister, sixteen grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.
