text of obituary:
PIONEER PRINTER OF CINCINNATI DIES AT 74
C. J. Krehbiel, 74, owner of the printing firm bearing his name, died at his home, 328 McGregor avenue, Mt. Auburn, Thursday night, after a short illness. Krehbiel was actively engaged up to the time he became bed-ridden, several weeks ago, and was one o the hardest workers in the Bethesda Hospital campaign, being treasurer of the hospital. The stress of the campaign is thought to have overtaxed him.
Krehbiel was born at Cleveland, Ohio, February 26, 1849, the son of a Methodist minister. He served as a printer’s devil in that city and came to Cincinnati in 1872, starting a printing shop on Third street. After moving his establishment several times Mr. Krehbiel finally located at Hunt street and Broadway, the site of his establishment at present.
He was regarded as the nestor of the printing trade in Cincinnati, although not the oldest of the craft. Master printers, during the present year, gave him a testimonial dinner.
He was a brother of the late Henry Krehbiel, internationally known music critic, who died some months ago. Mrs. Krehbiel, three sons, W. H., Charles and Robert, and two daughters, Bertha and Marie Krehbiel, survive. Funeral services probably will be held Monday.
Mr. Krehbiel was an uncle o George Krehbiel of Detroit, former Cincinnati newspaperman, and of Franklin Krehbiel, Cincinnati attorney.
