BARBARA SUSANNA KREHBIEL

Barbara Susanna Krehbiel, daughter of Henry and Barbara Galle Krehbiel, was born near Donnellson, Iowa on Sept. 27, 1872. She departed from this life on Feb. 25, 1950, at the age of 77 years, four months and 28 days. Her early life was spent in the home of her parents and in the community where she was born and where she also received her education and training.

In 1910 she went to Keokuk, Iowa where she was housekeeper and devoted companion of Miss Anna B. Davis until the death of Miss Davis in May 1949, having served in her home over 38 years which is a testimony to her diligence and faithfulness in her service. After the death of Miss Davis, she made her home with her sister, Mrs. Anna D. Weber. Several months ago, her health began to fail but she bore her illness patiently until she quietly passed away on Saturday evening, Feb. 25, at 9:45.

On Sept. 26, 1888, she was baptized, and received into the fellowship of the Zion Mennonite church, of which she remained a loyal member all her life. She was baptized by the Rev. Christian Schowalter, who was the pastor of the congregation at that time. She was a member of the women’s missionary society and in her early life was an active member of the different organizations of the church. While she lived in Keokuk, she was a faithful attendant at various churches in the city. She had a noble upright character, with sincere and deep convictions in the Christian faith.

She was preceded in death by her father in 1904 and her mother in 1906, by three brothers, William J., Christian H. and Henry J., one sister, Mary F., also by two sisters and one brother who died in infancy.

She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Anna Weber, who has been indisposed for some time and who was unable to attend the funeral services; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Lydia Krehbiel, four nieces, four nephews, two step-nieces, and one step-nephew, and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was a true and loving friend to all who knew her, and will be sadly missed as a sister and aunt.

Funeral services were held at the Agnew Funeral Home on Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 and from the Zion Mennonite church at 2 o’clock. The pastor, Rev. Elmer Basinger, had charge of the services. A ladies’ quartet composed of Mrs. Alice Leisy and the Misses Lillian, Mary, and Hilda Krehbiel sang the hymns, "In that Fair Land” and “Heaven Is My Home.”
