JACOB P. KRAUSE

Jacob P. Krause, of Dalmeny, Sask ., was born in 1893 in Ladekop, South Russia, the fourth of nine children. As a youth he moved with the family tO Samara, where he received his elementary education and became a member of the General Conference Mennonite Church. In 1914 he was drafted and served in the medical corps, attending wounded soldiers on the trains, until the end of the war. In 1918 he married Helena Kroeker at Ebenfeld, Samara. To this union were born 13 children, four of whom predeceased him in Russia and one in Canada.

In 1929 he emigrated to Canada, settling in the Langham, Sask., district, and, in 1947 he moved to the Dalmeny area, where he continued farming until his retirement in 1958. He enjoyed fairly good health until December, 1971 when he suffered a heart attaok and was hospitalized for a lengthy period. He died on May 22 at the age of 78.

He accepted Christ as Saviour in 1935 and was baptized by the late Rev. Jacob Lepp. He joined the Neuhoffnung MB Church at Langham, and later the Ebenezer MB Church, in Dalmeny. He was glad to take time to work, in the church in whatever capacity he could. His love for music was strong, and he enjoyed singing the songs of the faith, as well as studying the Scriptures dilligently ---a practice he continued right to the end.

Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Helena, four sons: Jake, of Langham, Henry, of Lethbridge, John and Peter, of St. Catharines, Ont.; four daughters: Helen (Mrs. Oskar Sawatsky), Margaret (Mrs. George Cole, Melfort), Mary (Mrs. Herman Wiebe, Vancouver), and Agnes (Mrs. Don Wiebe, Saskatoon) as well as 36 grandch1ildren.
