JACOB CORNELIUS KRAUSE

Jacob Cornelius Krause passed away in the Chilliwack General Hospital on July 5. He was born on March 19, 1894 near Schoenfeld, Russia, the third of seven children. He received his high school education in Gnadenfeld, Russia, and studied accounting in Simverropol.

At the age of ten, he was convicted of spiritual need through the parable of the unjust steward, committed his life to the Lord, and several years later was baptized.

After working several years as a beekeeper, he served with the Red Cross for three years during World War I. On November 5, 1918 he was married to Maria Rempel.

The Lord helped the family, in many hardships during the revolutionary years. In 1921 the Communists imprisoned him for 49 days but the Lord miraculously saved his life.

In 1924, the Krauses left Russia and began an entirely new way of life in Dalmeny, Saskatchewan. God provided for them through the help of many wonderful people. In 1928, they moved to Yarrow, B.C. and with eleven other families started the first Mennonite settlement in British Columbia. The first ten years were difficult years, but God provided for every need. In 1937 they were received into the membership of the Yarrow Mennonite Brethren Church.

God granted the Krauses the joy of sharing 52 years of life together. He has never failed them. On July 5, Mr. Krause entered into eternal rest where sorrow, pain and death are no more. He reached the age of 76.

He leaves to mourn his wife, Maria five daughters, Mrs. F. (Melita) Peters, Kitchener, Ont., Mrs. A. (Mary) Hamm, Chilliwack, B.C., Mrs. C. (Naomi) Giesbrecht, Yarrow, B.C., Mrs. W. (Betty) Voth, Prince George, B.C., Mrs. D. (Johanna) Braun, Fresno, California; three sons, Carl of Chilliwack, B.C., Edwin of Abbotsford, B.C., Albert of Burnaby, B.C.: 25 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; four sisters; and many more relatives and friends.
