Two Fathers, Age 37, Drown Near Berlin, O. When Ice Gives Way
Hartville, Ohio. — Two largely attended funerals were held near here Monday afternoon, Jan. 23, for two 37-year-old fathers who drowned in the icy waters of the Berlin Dam on Jan. 20.
Services for John Kramer were held at 1 p.m. at the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite meeting house. Nearly 900 persons attended the services at 3 pm. in the Hartville Conservative Mennonite Church for Noah Hershberger.
The two men, both of whom were masons, had gone to the dam to fish trough [sic] the ice. They were traveling across the ice in a snowmobile owned by Noah Hershberber when it broke through a thin spot. The bodies were not recovered until the next day.
The two men had grown up together in Virginia and were lifetime friends. John Kramer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Kramer of Virginia, leaves his wife and eight children. Noah Hershberger was the son of Jonas Hersberger of Montezuma, Ga. He is survived by his wife and seven children, the oldest 16.
