JOHN R. KRAHN

John R. Krahn of 9056 South Rio Vista Ave., Reedley, Calif., son of Peter P. Krahn and Katharina Rempel, was born in Swift Current, Sask. on May 16, 1911. When he was but 16 years old, his father passed away and the mother with her children moved to Cuauhtemoc, Chihuahua, Mexico. Four years later they moved back to Canada to the community of Winkler, Manitoba where he lived until 1950.

As a young boy he accepted Jesus as his Savior and was baptized upon this confession by Peter Toews and became a member of the Sommerfelder Church at Reinland. On June 8, 1937, he entered holy matrimony with Helena Penner at Winkler, Manitoba. Abram Friesen officiated. Blacksmithing and farming were the means of making a livelihood. Four sons were born to the family to bring added blessings to the home.

In 1950 the family moved to Chihuahua, Mexico, but moved to California in 1953 and settled near Reedley. In 1957 they affiliated with the First Mennonite Church and sought to serve God through the church.

Mr. Krahn was employed asa mechanic at the Alta Concrete Pipe Co. and was occupied in his own shop in his spare hours. He was a conscientious worker and a good father.

Two days before his death he suffered a heart attack. His second attack, which was fatal, came Thursday morning, June 11, at 7:00 a.m. The death seems untimely and the family and friends will miss his [sic] greatly.

Those closest to him are his bereaved wife Helena; four sons, Jacob, Peter, John and Isaac, all at home; six brothers, Peter of Cuauhtemoc, Mexico, George of British Honduras, Ben of Winkler, Manitoba, Cornelious [sic Cornelius] of Winnipeg, Manitoba; Jake of Altona, Manitoba, David of Cando, North Dakota; five sisters, Katherine, Mrs. Cornelius Friesen, and Mrs. Helen Friesen of Cuauhtemoc, Mexico, Anna, Mrs. John Peter of Winkler, Manitoba, Susan, Mrs. John Hildebrandt of Plum Coulee, Manitoba; Margaret, Mrs. Geo. Banman of Myrtle, Manitoba; one half-sister, Mrs. Agatha Wall, and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the First Mennonite Church of Reedley. Rev. Aaron J. Epp and Victor Fast officiated. Burial was made at the Reedley cemetery.
