FRED KORNELSON

The son of Wilhelm and Dorthea Kornelson, Fred Kornelson was born in Austria on December 2, 1888. The family moved to Balgonie, Saskatchewan in 1889. He married Lena Butz in 1909. The Kornelsons farmed in Saskatchewan until retiring in 1964 and moving to Swift Current. At the age of 16 he committed his life to Christ. However he recommitted himself to his Lord in mid-life and from then on loved the Lord and the church in a new way. He was known as a man of deep conviction, principles, and determined to live his life under God. The family remembers him as a faithful father who carried a deep concern and personal interest for each child. He loved and was loved by his wife, children and grandchildren. The Lord called him home on May 10. A funeral service was .held on May 13 in the Swift Current Mennonite Brethren Church, with pastor Peter Nikkel officiating. He spoke from John 17. He was predeceased by two sons, three grandchildren, five brothers and two sisters. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife, Lena; his daughters, (Mrs.) Frieda Bakes; Alma (Mrs. Ben) Harder, Evelyn (Mrs. Wilfred) Reimche, and Dorothy (Mrs. John) Conrad; his sons and their wives, Vernon and Frieda, Wilmer and Evangeline; Leona, wife of his late son Gordon; 22 grandchildren; 29 greatgrandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; five brothers; two sisters; and many relatives and friends.
