ANNE KORNELSEN

Anne Kornelsen of Coaldale, Alta. passed away Nov. 14. She was born Oct. 17, 1924 to Heinrich and Sara Kornelsen in Dalmeny, Sask. She grew up in Coaldale and attended school in Readymade, Alta. She committed her life to the Lord at an early age; it was always her desire to serve Him. Early in life, she learned to play the piano and then the organ with only a bit of formal training, using her talents at home, various functions and church. She taught in various communities in southern Alberta. She then taught a few years at Alberta Mennonite High School until it closed in 1964. Here she led a girls' choir that gained first-class recognition in musical festivals in Lethbridge, Alta. She served with MBMS International, first at the mission office in Hillsboro, Kan., then with the German radio ministry of HCjB in Quito, Ecuador. Her work included maintaining correspondence with listeners and producing children's and music programs. She later taught office and secretarial courses at Lethbridge Community College until retirement. She remained active in her community and church. She continued to live with her mother after her father's death in 1974. As her mother became less independent, she gave herself to the task of caregiver with love and devotion. They welcomed visitors to their home. During her life and her last illness, Is. 41:10 was her anchor, prominently displayed on the wall of her hospital room. She is mourned by her mother; sister Elvira; and brothers Henry, Rudy and Arnold. A memorial service was held Nov. 17 in Coaldale MB Church, with Lorne Willms and Rudy Heidebrecht ministering.
