HENRY ABRAM KOOP

Henry Abram Koop of Clearbrook, B.C. passed away May 11. He was born Apr. 8, 1903 to Abram and Katharina Koop in Lichtenau, Molotschna, Russia. His mother died when he was 11. He accepted Jesus during evangelistic meetings in Lichtenau, was baptized by D.D. Derksen and joined the church. In 1926 he immigrated to Canada, leaving his family behind. After several months in Winnipeg, he moved to Coaldale, Alta. He married Evangeline Hamm Oct. 30, 1927. He was a member of the first church building committee. He made lifelong friends in Coaldale. They moved to Ready-Made, Alta. and in 1943 to a dairy farm in Chilliwack, B.C. There was no church building, so he helped build one on a corner acre of his land. In 1973 they moved to Clearbrook. He enjoyed his fruit trees and grapes and fishing with friends. They joined Clearbrook MB Church and were active in church as long as health permitted. In spite of his failing memory, his prayers remained clear and coherent. He is remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather. Predeceased by his son Walter in 1981, he is mourned by his wife; sons John of Burnaby, B.C., Abe of Japan and David of Calgary; daughters Louise of Vancouver and Agnes Janzen of Kelowna, B.C.; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. The funeral was May 16 in Clearbrook MB Church, with J.E. Klassen and Jacob Pauls ministering.
