TINA KONRAD
Tina Konrad of Clearbrook, B.C. passed away Apr. 8. She was born Mar. 3, 1911 to Johann and Liese Ballau in Blumstein, Molotschna, southern Russia. In her youth she was baptized and joined the Mennonite Church. She married Gerhard Heidebrecht Apr. 12, 1935. They lived with his parents, and she enjoyed happy hours as a homemaker. Elvera was born in 1943, just before they fled to Germany. Gerhard was drafted into the German army and went missing in action. In 1948 she and Elvera immigrated to Canada, joining her sister-in-law Justina and George Neufeld in Horndean, Man. For three years she lived in Winnipeg, working in a garment factory and other places. She married Bernhard Harder June 28, 1951 and moved to Coaldale, Alta. Leona was born in 1952. Bernhard passed away in April, 1974 and she moved to Sunny South Manor in Coaldale. She was an ardent, hospitable homemaker and enjoyed crocheting and knitting. She was active in ladies' fellowship and ladies' choir in Coaldale Mennonite Church. In October, 1982 she married Jacob Konrad, becoming a mother and grandmother to his family, and moved to Clearbrook, joining Clearbrook MB Church. She is remembered as a devout Christian. She had a large collection of poems on the Christian life and was an example to her family. Psalms 23 and 121 were favourite scriptures. She is mourned by her husband Jacob; daughters Elvera Falk of Lethbridge, Alta. and Leona Guthrie of Edmonton; 4 grandchildren; 3 stepchildren; 8 step grandchildren and 1 brother. The funeral was Apr. 13 in Clearbrook MB Church, with Jacob Pauls and John E. Klassen ministering.
