PETER JAKOB KONRAD

Peter .Jakob Konrad of Clearbrook, B.C. passed away Nov. 29. He was born Apr. :3, 1890 to .Jakob and Helene Konrad in Schoenthai, Crimea. The family moved to Zagradovka in 1893, Spat in 1897 and Omsk, Siberia in 1910. In 1911 he entered forestry service, and then was drafted into the medical service, returning home in 1918. He accepted Christ in June, 19l8, was baptized in July and joined the MB church. In 1919 the family moved to Maslyanovka. He married Louise Braun June 13, 1920. They farmed with his parents, taking over the farm when his father died in 1926. In 1929 they were in the last group allowed to leave the U.S.S.R. Infant son Heinrich died in a refugee camp in Germany. They arrived in Canada Mar. 2, 1930, settling on a homestead in the Peace River area of northern Alberta. Conditions were difficult, but God's grace sustained them. In 1936 eldest daughter Helen died. In 1938 they moved to rented land near La Glace, Alta., where they were closer to church and finances improved. In 1946 they moved to a mixed farm in Clearbrook, B.C., where they had productive and blessed years. They enjoyed fellowship in Clearbrook MB Church. At 75 they sold the farm and moved into Clearbrook. Louise died Nov. 22, 1983. His faith was always strong, and he served his family, church and community in many ways. He is survived by daughters Mary Epp of Grande Prairie, Alta., Lillian Toews of Vancouver, Anne Dyck of Toronto and Louise Friesen of Aylmer, Ont.; sons Peter of Burnaby, B.C., Jake of Aldergrove, B.C., George of Kamloops, B.C., Bernard of Winnipeg and Herman of Calgary; 28 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and 1 brother. The funeral was Dec. 2 in Clearbrook MB Church, with John E. Klassen ministering.
