MRS. HELENA KOEHN

Mrs. Helena Koehn, daughter of Tobias and Elizabeth (Ratzlaff) Koehn, was born on March 26, 1882, near Moundridge, Kan. The Lord called her home to glory on March 1, 1966 at the age of 83 years, 11 months and five days. She suffered a heart attack early Sunday morning and passed into the presence of the Lord on Tuesday at St. Luke's Hospital in Bellingham, Wash.

The deceased accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour in her early youth, was baptized upon her confession of faith by Rev. Peter Balzer and was thus received as a member of the Emmanuel Mennonite Church near Moundridge, Kan.

On Feb. 7, 1906 Rev. John Ratzlaff united us in marriage. We established out home in Meno, Okla., moving later to Taloga, Okla., then to Perryton, Tex., and finally here to Blaine, Wash. the Lord blessed us with eight children, all of whom are still living. Mother considered it her great privilege to pray for them each day.

The Lord graciously granted us the privilege of celebrating our 25th and 50th wedding anniversaries respectively, and also just four weeks ago the 60th anniversary. We felt this was a definite answer to our prayer, that it might please the Lord to grant us this privilege. She enjoyed especially the many friends who come to enjoy the day with us.

When the Lord called me into the ministry of the Word in 1917 she willing and prayerfully shared this ministry with me. She was a gracious hostess to many visiting missionaries, evangelists, as well as to relatives and friends in the church and community. She also was a faithful and active member of the Ladies Mission Circle, and for many years taught a Sunday school class. The sacred Scriptures became increasingly precious to her as she read the Bible through many times. In sickness and in health her dependence was always on the Lord.

Surviving are her husband, Rev. Ferd D. Koehn; five daughters, Mrs. Frieda Gooch of Perryton, Tex., Pauline Koehn of Amarillo, Tex., Elizabeth Koehn of Blaine, Wash., Mrs. Augusta Decker of Bellingham, Wash., Mrs. Selma Gienger of Blaine, Wash.; three sons, Alvin Koehn of Perryton, Tex., Gus Koehn of Newton, Kan., Ferd Koehn of Perryton, Tex.; two sons-in-law; three daughters-in-law; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Mary Jantz; two brothers, Ben Koehn and Pete Koehn; and a host of relatives and friends. — Rev. F. D. Koehn and family.
