— Funeral services were held at the Lonetree church near Galva Tuesday afternoon for Andrew Koehn, 74, well-known retired farmer of the Halstead community who died there May 14 after a short illness. He is survived by three sisters and five brothers.

Andrew A. Koehn was born February 28, 1879 in Marion county Kansas and passed away in the Halstead hospital May 14, 1953 at the age of 74 years, two months and 16 days. His death was caused by pneumonia.

In his early youth, he with his parents moved to McPherson county, Kansas. Here he received his education and grew to manhood. He worked as a laborer for many years, of which a few years were spent in Utah where he worked in a coal mine. When he came back, he made his home with his brother Ben and family for 25 years, always a willing and hard worker, saving his earnings so that he was able to buy a farm in Oklahoma. In 1931, he went to live on this farm where he stayed for 15 years. In 1946 he came back to Halstead where he made his home with relatives and friends. He lived with the Roy Unruh family for the last three years.

Andrew had a sociable disposition, giving satisfactory service wherever he worked. He spent much of his leisure time reading the Bible.

He was apparently in good health until 1944 when his health began to fail. For the last seven years he had suffered from a heart ailment. Last Saturday, he seemed unusually restless but was more quiet on Sunday and Monday. On Tuesday morning, his condition was quite serious so that he was immediately taken to the hospital where his condition grew worse. On Thursday morning a 5:20 a.m. he quietly passed away.

Thus we commend him to our Maker who knows man as he is and shall deal justly with all.

He leaves to mourn his sudden departure his aged step-mother, Mrs. Andrew B. Koehn; five brothers, Jake of Sacremento [sic Sacramento], Calif., Frank of Winton, Calif., Albert of Livingston, Calif. and Fred and John of Galva, Kansas, four sisters, Mary (Mrs. Henry Siebrant) of Chickasha, Okla., Mathelda [sic Matilda, (Mrs. George Harms of Longdale, Okla., Carrie, (Mrs. Herman Frank) of Copeland, Kansas and Esther, (Mrs. Henry Lewis) of Hutchinson, Kansas and a host of other relatives and friends. His parents, (Andrew B. and Elsie Koehn), three brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

Memorial services were conducted from the Lone Tree Mennonite church of Galva on Tuesday afternoon, May 19, 1953 at two o’clock. The ministers Jonas B. Koehn, Frank Unruh and John A. Becker were in charge of the services. The church choir sang a number of favorite hymns which included: “Only Remember,” “God's Way Is Best,” “We Shall Sleep, But Not Forever” and “When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder.” He was laid to rest in the Lone Tree Church cemetery with the Kaufman Funeral Home in charge of funeral arrangements. Casket Bearers were: Tobe D. Koehn, Sam. T. Unruh, Henry P. Unruh, Dan H. Becker, Albert P. Unruh and John B. Koehn.
