MRS. VIOLA KOEHN

Mrs. Viola Koehn, daughter of Gerhard and Julia Dirks, was born June 8, 1904, at Durham, Kan. and passed away July 27, 1961, at the Halstead Hospital. She reached the age of 57 years, one month, and 19 days.

She grew to womanhood and received her education near Greensburg, Kan.

At the age of 16 years she felt the need of a Saviour, repented of her sins and found peace with God through Jesus Christ, and upon the confession of her faith was baptized and added to the Church of God in Christ Mennonite, on March 29, 1921. She was a faithful member unto the end.

She was united in marriage to Pete Koehn on Aug. 2, 1925. To this union three daughters were born. They were blessed with nearly 36 years of sharing life's joys and sorrows. They lived on different farms near Halstead until they moved into their own home in Halstead.

She was very industrious and made home a place where her husband, children and grandchildren loved to be. As a true Christian it was always her endeavor to live for Christ and she was always concerned for the welfare of her family.

She was in fair health until 1957 when she had her first major operation. In the following years she underwent two more major operations. On July 21 she was again admitted to the hospital where all was done to give her strength and relief. Having committed her will into the hands of a loving God, she peacefully passed away Thursday, July 27, at 2:11 p.m.

She leaves to mourn her departure, her husband, Pete, three daughters; Donna and husband, Elmer Decker, Rich Hill, Mo.; Della and husband, Joe Unruh, Halstead, Kan.; Erma and husband, Wallace Decker, Sedgwick, Kan.; eight grandchildren, four brothers, three sisters, and a host of relatives and friends.

Her parents, one sister and one brother preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 31, at 10 a.m. in the Grace Mennonite Church, Halstead, with Rev. Carl Dirks and Rev. Kenneth Smith officiating. Interment was in the Halstead Cemetery.
