SARAH KOEHN

Sarah Koehn, nee Schmidt, was born November 10, 1864, in the village of Mueza Letacha, Poland, and passed away in her home at Montezuma, Kansas, November 9, 1942, at 4 o'clock a. m., reaching the age of 77 years, 11 months and 29 days.

In the year of 1875 she with her parents came to America landing in Philadelphia, Pa., from there they came to central Kansas. Her parents being in meager circumstances she worked for her livelihood among many strangers.

At the age of 14 years she felt the need of a Savior, gave her heart to Jesus and was added by baptism to the Church of God in Christ Mennonite by Minster Benjamin Schmidt, to which she remained faithful till death.

On October 2, 1881, she gave her hand in the bond of holy matrimony to John S. Koehn, sharing joys and sorrows of life together for over 60 years.

In their early married life they settled on a farm in Marion county, Kansas, living there 16 years, after which they moved to Oklahoma where they lived at different places for 5 years. In 1915 they moved to Montezuma, Kansas, living with their children, Daniel Dirks.

Mother was a devout and active Christian, much concerned for the welfare of her family, also lending a helping hand to many that were in need, taking the place of a nurse in many instances.

ON June 19, 1941 her husband was taken from her by death, leaving mother very lonesome and rather desiring to follow after. Last July it was noticed that she was declining gradually and it became evident that the end was near. Her death was caused by Acute Myocarditis.

She leaves to mourn her departure 3 children, Jonathan and Mrs. Daniel Dirks of Montezuma, and Elie of Miami, Florida, 20 grandchildren, 3 brothers and a host of other relatives and friends.s we mourn but not without hope, since mother had set her house in order and was anxious to go to her better home.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, November 12 in the Montezuma Mennonite Church by Rev. David J. Koehn and Rev. Ervin Harms. Burial was in the church cemetery.
