INFECTION FATAL TO HALSTEAD FARMER

Halstead, Kans. — A tetanus infection proved fatal to Jake T. Koehn, 60, on Feb. 20 at the Halstead hospital. He was a life-long resident of this community and had farmed north of town for a number of years.

Funeral services at the Grace Mennonite church on Monday, Feb. 25, were in charge of Rev. Carl Dirks and Rev. Paul Becker.

His wife, Nettie, nine children, and nine brothers and sisters survive.

JACOB T. KOEHN

Jacob T. Koehn was born at Halstead, Kansas on October 28, 1891, and passed away at the Halstead hospital on February 20, 1952, at the age of 60 years, three months and 23 days. He lived nearly his entire life on the section just north of Halstead where the present home is located.

At the age of 24 years, he felt the need of a Saviour and upon the remission of his sins and confession of faith, he was baptized by elder, F. C. Fricke and added to the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite on March 29, 1916, remaining a faithful member to the end.

On October 29, 1916, he was joined in marriage to Nettie Unruh, with whom he shared joys and sorrows for 35 years. To this union were born six sons and three daughters.

He was a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather and a good neighbor, ever ready to help those in need. He served the cause of Christ to the best of his ability, being much concerned for the salvation of his family and of others. He also gave much time in serving the church. Now, his work is done but not forgotten.

He was in fair health until January 22 of this year, when he had a heart attack. He was taken to the hospital where, he gradually recovered so that after three weeks, he was able to be taken home. After being home a week, a tetanus infection set in and he was taken back to the hospital on February 19, where the next day at five o’clock in the afternoon he peacefully fell asleep in Jesus.

He leaves to mourn his departure, his bereaved wife, Nettie Koehn; the children, Lucas and wife Mildred, Noah and wife Lorene, Menno and wife Edna, Allen and wife Osie, Otis and wife Norma, all of Halstead, Harley of the home, Ada and husband Lavern Nightengale of Chickasha, Oklahoma, Eileen and Vera of the home; eight grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Tobias Koehn of Halstead; six brothers, four sisters and many other relatives and friends. Two grandchildren, his father, two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

Funeral services were conducted from the Grace Mennonite church of Halstead on Monday afternoon, February 25, 1952, a 2:00 o’clock. Rev. Carl Dirks, Rev Paul Becker and Rev. F. H. Wenger were the officiating ministers. A service in the home at one o’ clock preceded the church service. The church choir sang “Will the Circle Be Unbroken” and “On The Other Side” in the home. Songs in the church were “No Friend Like Jesus,” “The Haven of Rest,” and ‘‘Some Time We’ll Understand.” At the graveside they sang “Rest For The Weary.”

Casket bearers were Obed Johnson, Ervin Johnson, Jake C. Unruh, Abe Unruh, Irwin Becker and Bennie Unruh. He was laid to rest in the family lot in the Halstead cemetery with the directors of the Kaufman funeral home in charge of funeral arrangements.
