— Word has been received of the death of Jacob B. Koehn, retired laborer and native of Germany, at his home in Burrton on Tuesday morning. He was 79. Surviving are three brothers, Ben, D. C., and Simon B., and two sisters, Mrs. John Johnson and Mrs. Jacob Johnson, all of Halstead. He had never married. Funeral services were announced for 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the Grace Mennonite church west of Halstead, Rev. Carl Dirks and Rev. Paul Becker officiating.

JACOB B. KOEHN

Jacob B. Koehn, son of Benjamin and Susanna Koehn, was born March 1, 1873, in Poland, Russia and passed away at Burrton, Kansas on August 5, 1952, reaching the age of 79 years, five months and four days.

When but a small child, he came with his parents to America. He received his schooling and grew to manhood in Harvey county, Kansas.

In 1928, after the death of his mother, he made his home with his sister and her family, the John A. Johnson family. He had a kind disposition and was faithful in helping with the work on the farm. For a number of years, Jake’s health had been failing. He grew weaker and needed the helpful hands of others, which the family was so faithful in giving to him. For two months he was in the Bethel hospital at Newton, Kansas and when he grew stronger, was taken to a rest home in Burrton. On Tuesday morning, August 5, 1952, at 9:00 o’clock, he quietly and suddenly passed away.

He leaves to mourn his passing three brothers, Ben of Rich Hill, Missouri, Simon and Cornelius, both of Halstead; two sisters, Eva (Mrs. John A. Johnson) and Susanna (Mrs. J. C. Johnson), also of Halstead; and many other relatives and friends. His parents, one brother and one sister preceded him in death.

Funeral services for Mr. Koehn were conducted on Thursday morning, August 7, at 10:00 o’clock from the Grace Mennonite church with his pastor, Rev. Carl Dirks and Rev. Paul Becker in charge. The Grace Mennonite Church choir sang: “Nearer My God To Thee,” “Heaven Is My Home," and “Jesus, Lover of My Soul.” For the committal services, they sang “Rest For the Weary.”

He was laid to rest in the Halstead cemetery. Casket bearers were J. C. Unruh, Mose Unruh, Walter Seiler, Jonas Buller, Glenn Becker and Clarence Koehn. The directors of the Kaufman funeral home were in charge of services.
