HENRY C. KOEHN

Our father Henry C. Koehn was born on Nov. 15, 1862 in the village of Karlswalde, Poland, Russia. He immigrated to America in 1874, making their home at Florence, Kansas the first winter. In the following spring he settled on the prairies in McPherson County.

On January 11, 1886 he was united in marriage to Carolina Jantz. To this union 14 children were born, 11 sons and 3 daughters.

In 1892 they moved to Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, living at this place for about 12 years, then in 1904 they moved to Chickasha, Oklahoma.

Father felt his need of a Savior and realized he was lost without a change of heart. He called upon his God and found remission of sins and was baptized upon his confession of faith on April 4, 1915.

Then again in 1931 they returned to Kansas, making their home with their son Edd H. Koehn of Galva. On May 15, 1940 his wife was taken from his side, leaving him alone for the remaining days of his life.

Father's health began to fail in 1928 and has not been able to recover to normal health. He underwent several operations; this would give temporary relief yet he often endured sever pains. May 11, he was taken to the mercy hospital at Moundridge where he received medical aid. But he grew weaker and weaker until June 22, 11:15 P. M. he was relieved from all pain and fell asleep in Jesus. Death was caused by pneumonia and other complications.

Father attained the age of 82 years, 7 months and 7 days.

The surviving ones are 5 sons and 2 daughters, 22 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. 5 brothers and 1 sister. Those preceeding [sic] him in death are, his wife and 7 children, 3 brothers and 3 sisters, 2 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

We mourn not as such who have no hope. Father said he was ready to go to that better world and be at home with the Lord and those gone before.

Father, dear, your wish is granted.
     Sorrow, pain and grief are o'er,
By the Grace of God we'll meet You,
     Over on the peaceful shore.

Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon June 25, 1945. Services were held at the house with Rev. Jesse Johnson in charge at 1:30l P. M. The services in the Lone-Tree church were held at 2:30 P. M. with Rev. Jonas Koehn, Rev. John Becker and Rev. Jesse Johnson officiating. The body was laid to rest in the Lone-Tree cemetery.
