Retired Pastor Dies In Washington

Word was received here last week of the death of Rev. F. D. Koehn of Blaine, Wash., retired minister of the General Conference Mennonite Church, on April 9.

Rev. Koehn was the father of Gus Koehn of Newton.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday at the Glendale Mennonite Church, Lynden, Wash.

FERDINAND DAVID KOEHN

Ferdinand David Koehn was born on March 17, 1879 in Ostrog, Poland, the youngest son of David and Pauline Koehn. At the age of 11 he, his mother and older brother migrated to America to settle in Kansas. Later they moved to Major county, Okla. There he met and married Helena Koehn on Feb.7, 1906. The Lord blessed this union with eight children: three sons — Alvin, Gus, and Ferd; five daughters — Frieda, Pauline, Elizabeth, Augusta, and Selma.

In his early youth he recognized his need of Jesus Christ and accepted Him as his personal Savior. Also recognizing God's claim on his life he followed the Lord's call into the ministry. After attending Oklahoma Bible Academy he was ordained into the ministry and accepted his first pastorate at Kedron [sic Kidron] Mennonite Church, Taloga, Okla. He remained there for 10 years. In December of 1924 he moved his family to Perryton, Tex. where he pastored the Bethel Mennonite Church for 16 years. In 1940 the family moved to Washington where he actively participated in the organization of the Glendale Mennonite Church and became its first pastor. After his retirement from the active ministry he enjoyed teaching a Sunday school class and remained faithful in the attendance of all church services until the Lord called him to his eternal reward.

On Feb. 7, 1966 mother and father observed their 60th wedding anniversary. Less than one month later on March 1, 1966 our mother quietly went to be with her Lord. Our father enjoyed a measure of good health and remained quite active until the Lord received him into His own glorious presence on April 9, having reached the age of 89 years, three weeks, and two days. Preceding him in death, aside from his wife, were two grandchildren, Irvin Ediger and Janice Carolyn Koehn.

Remaining to cherish his memory are his children: Alvin and Helen Koehn of Perryton, Tex.; Gus and Virgie Koehn of Newton, Kan.; Ferd and Carolyn Koehn of Custer, Wash.; Frieda Gooch of Perryton, Tex.; Pauline Koehn of Amarillo, Tex.; Elizabeth Koehn of Blaine, Wash.; Augusta and Jack Decker of Bellingham, Wash.; Selma and Albert Gienger [sic Geinger] of Blaine, Wash.; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, and many relatives and friends. — The Family.
