text of obituary:
MRS. FANNY KOEHN
My beloved companion and our dear mother and grandmother, Fanny Schmidt Koehn, was born to Benjamin and Anna Schmidt near Galva, Kan. on March 18, 1888. She passed away at Mercy Hospital, Moundridge, Kan., on July 3, 1970, reaching the age of 82 years, three months and 17 days. Her death was caused by a stroke.
She grew to womanhood and received her education in this community. She spent most of her life in McPherson County, living at several different farms and for 25 years in Moundridge, the last five years in Schmidt Nursing Home.
In her youth she realized the need of a Savior. Upon repentance and confession of faith she was baptized, becoming a member of the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite on May 16, 1904. She remained faithful to her vows to the end.
She was joined in marriage to Jacob W. Koehn, April 13, 1913. This union was blessed with two sons and three daughters. They shared joys and sorrows of life for over 57 years.
She was a concerned companion, a kind and loving mother, and sympathetic to the unfortunate and needy. Her niece, Dora Yost (now Mrs. Ben S. Koehn) at the age of 10 years came to make her home with the family, remaining for 12 years. Her concern for the spiritual welfare of her family and others was expressed often as she offered admonitions and made friendly social visits. All of her children and grandchildren were an individual concern of hers, and she prayed much for them.
Her own needs of soul strength and comfort were gained by singing and faithful church attendance. Through the years she attached great importance to one’s last hour of life. Her life’s goal was to be ready for this final hour.
Mother enjoyed fairly good health till July 1965, when she suffered a stroke. She recovered exceptionally well, for which she gave God the honor. ln July 1969 she suffered a heart attack and several light strokes. On June 27, 1970 she went to the dinner table, meeting the household with a friendly smile, intending to enjoy the noon meal. But God designed otherwise. Her last word was spoken and He granted her wish a few days later and took her home to Himself.
She leaves to mourn her departure her sorrowing husband, Jacob W. Koehn; her children, Katie and husband Gilmore Unruh, Sophine and husband Leonard Schmidt of Moundridge, Jesse and wife Hazel of Galva, Noah and wife Susanna of Moundridge, Edna and husband Oliver Unruh of Hillsboro; 27 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, a host of relatives and friends. Her parents, three brothers, four sisters, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, July 5. The introduction was by Abe D. Koehn, text by Jonas B. Koehn (reading from Rev. 14-13; 2 Cor. 5-1; Phil. 1-21), and committal service by Herman Nightengale. — The Family
