MRS. EVA HARMS KOEHN

Mrs. Eva Harms Koehn was born in Poland, Russia, on March 28, 1871. When she was two years old her parents immigrated to this country and settled to make their home near Elbing, Kansas. Here she grew to young womanhood.

In 1888 upon the confession of her faith she was baptized and accepted as a member in the Grace Hill Mennonite church at Whitewater, Kansas, by Rev. Toews. On February 23, 1899, she was united in Holy Matrimony to Henry Koehn at the Grace Hill Mennonite church by the Rev. Andreas Harms. This union lasted for 29 years, 6 months, and16 days during which time they were privileged to share their joys and sorrows together. God graciously blessed this home with three children, one son, and two daughters.

After having made their home for several years in Kansas, they moved to Cordell, Oklahoma, where they established their home on a farm southeast of the city. Later on they moved to Taloga, Oklahoma, where they resided for a few years, after which they moved again, this time to Carnegie, Oklahoma. About 12 year later her husband passed away at their home near Verden, Oklahoma, on September 8, 1928. Immediately after his death she moved to Enid, Oklahoma, where she has resided until her passing on to glory.

Upon the organization of the Grace Mennonite Church in Enid, Oklahoma, she united with this church where she remained a faithful member until death. it so happens that she is the first of this church to pass on to eternity.

On May 8, 1931, she had an accident in which she fell and broke her hip, from which she has never completely recovered. About six years ago her present ailment set in and in spite of medical aid she had suffered more or less continually since that time, being completly [sic] bedfast for the past 18 months. Finally her Heavenly Father relieved her from all earthly pain and sufferings by taking her home to her Home in Glory on September 29, 1944, at 5:00 P. M. She reached the age of 73 years.

She leaves to mourn her departure, one son Ernest Koehn of Anadarko, Oklahoma, two daughters, Mrs. Lena Koehn Griffith and Mrs. Martha Koehn Beatrice, both of Enid, Oklahoma, one daughter-in-law, two sons-in-law, 12 grandchildren, and one sister, Miss Mary Harms of Whitewater, Kansas. Also a host of relatives and friends. Her husband, her parents, three brother and two grandchildren preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held at the Darnall Funeral Home in Enid, Oklahoma, on October 3, 1944 with Rev. Ben Rahn, pastor of the Grace Mennonite church in Enid and Rev. P. C. Grunau, minster of the Mennonite Brethren church in Enid, officiating. Following this her body was shipped to Carnegie, Oklahoma, for further funeral arrangements and burial with the Rev. H. N. Harder, of Geary, Okla., officiating. She was laid to rest beside the grave of her husband who preceded her in death.
