ALBERT J. KOEHN

Albert J. Koehn, son of Henry C. and Mary Jantz Koehn, was born April 3, 1902 near Halstead, Kansas. In 1906 he moved to Taloga, Okla. with his parents. Here he received his elementary education. When his parents moved to Fairview, Okla. he finished his schooling at the Oklahoma Bible Academy at Meno.

On May 8, 1921, Albert was baptized by Rev. H. U. Schmidt upon the confession of faith and was received into the fellowship of the Kidron Mennonite Church near Taloga. Later he established his own home in the Orienta Community and transferred to the Saron Mennonite Church. Although he retained his membership there until his death after moving back to Taloga he was active and served as a teacher in the Kidron Mennonite Sunday School until it discontinued.

On Feb. 3, 1924, Albert was united in marriage to Edna Eck of Meno, Okla. To this union three sons were born, two of whom survive him.

The Koehns first established a home on a farm in the Orienta vicinity. The family moved to a farm south of Taloga and in 1944 they moved to town and he carried the mail on the Star Route from Taloga to Camargo for three years. In 1945 the Koehns opened a cafe which they operated until the purchase of the Ideal Food Market in 1946. He was engaged in this business at the time of his death. Albert attended the local Methodist Church and was an assistant teacher of the Senior Sunday School Class.

Death came suddenly with a heart attack Sunday morning, May 20, 1962, at the age of 60 years, one month, and 17 days.

Albert is survived by his wife, Edna; two sons, Melvin of Lawton, Okla., now stationed with the armed forced in Alaska, and Robert of Medford, Okla.; two daughters-in-law; three grandchildren, two brothers, and three sisters.

He was preceded in death by one son, Joe Maynard; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Koehn; a sister, Malinda, and a brother, Adolph.
