EMC Church Leader, Business Executive Dies at 80 in Illinois
Chenoa, Ill. — M.L. "Bill" Klopfenstein, 80, a prominent figure for many years in the Evangelical Mennonite church and former insurance company president, died Nov. 16, 1986, at Meadows Retirement Center here.
Klopfenstein served as pastor of Highland Bethel Mennonite Church in Ft. Wayne, Ind., for 15 years, and also served as secretary, vice-president and acting president of the general board of the Evangelical Mennonite Church.
He joined Brotherhood Mutual Insurance Co., Ft. Wayne, in 1940 and was appointed corporate secretary in 1959, executive secretary in 1961 and president in 1966.
He retired from the presidency in 1971, but remained on the board in an active capacity until 1983 and in an honorary capacity afterward.
Services were held at Pine Hills Evangelical Mennonite Church.
