He is survived by two sisters, Mary of Hillsboro, Kan., who is on the Tabor college staff, and Mrs. John R. Regier of Aurora, Neb.; and two brothers, Henry of Hillsboro, and Menno of Reedley, Calif.

John P. Kliewer, son of Peter J. and Susanna (Buller) Kliewer, was born on Feb. 7, 1897 on a farm near Henderson, Neb. and died on Nov. 30, 1968 at the Henderson Community Hospital. He reached the age of 71 years, nine months, and 23 days.

He received an elementary public school education. For a short period of time he also attended a private school which offered instruction in the German language and in Bible. He was especially interested in Bible history and took delight in reading the Old Testament stories.

He grew up on a farm, and since he never married he continued to live in the parental home and assist with the farm work. He loved the farm and for several years farmed on his own. In 1950 when his parents retired and moved to Henderson, he likewise ceased farming operations. After the death of his parents, he continued to live alone except for short periods of time spent in Hillsboro, Kan. with his sister Mary.

Early in life he had a Christian experience but it was not until later that he came to a deeper realization of salvation. The death of his mother in 1955 wrought a decided change in his spiritual life. He found great joy in his new experience and desired to be obedient to the Scriptural baptismal command. Consequently he was baptized on July 29, 1956 upon his confession of faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and received into the Henderson Mennonite Brethren Church where he remained a faithful member until his death.

He was a man of quiet disposition and lived a simple and retiring life. he did however, have a true concern and interest in spiritual matters. He had a profound interest in people and a wide range of acquaintances.

On Oct. 18 he suffered a stroke and was taken to the Henderson hospital.

He was preceded in death by his mother in 1955, father in 1959, and his brother Herman in 1960. He continues to live on in the fond memory of his two sisters, Mary, librarian at Tabor College, Hillsboro, Kan., who faithfully stood by his side during the time of his fatal illness, and Hannah, Mrs. John R. Regier and family of Henderson; his sister-in-law, Verna, Mrs. Herman Kliewer and family of Henderson; and two brothers, H. B. Kliewer and family of Hillsboro and Menno L. Kliewer and family of Reedley, Calif. &#8212; The Family.
