Crash Near Corn,Okla. Fatal to Farmer

Corn, Okla. — Funeral services for Willie P. Kliewer, who died in a traffic accident two miles east of here, were conducted at the Corn Mennonite Brethren Church on Sunday, June 24. Rev. Albert Epp officiated, assisted by H. S. Boese.

A pick-up truck driven by Mr. Kliewer and an auto driven by Mrs. Sam Kroeker collided at an intersection. Mrs. Kroeker escaped with minor injuries and her daughter, Diane, sustained a fracture in one foot. Their car caught fire, but the blaze was extinguished by a truck driver who arrived at the scene moments after the impact.

WILLIE P. KLIEWER

Willie P. Kliewer was born northwest of Corn, Okla. on Jan 12, 1900 to Peter F. and Agnes Scherling Kliewer.

Father spent his boyhood days in the Corn community. Here he also obtained his elementary education. As a young man he realized his lost condition and accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour. He was baptized on June 16, 1918 and received into the fellowship of the Corn Mennonite Brethren Church, where he remained a faithful and active member till his sudden death.

On Aug. 20, 1922 we joined in holy wedlock making our home near Corn. This union was blessed with 41 years of sharing joy and sorrow, and with two daughters and four sons, of whom one son preceded him in death, in infancy.

Father enjoyed good health and enjoyed working to provide for the family. He would always be willing to render more sacrifices than necessary for us. This was again demonstarted [sic] the day of the accident, when he insisted on doing an errand. We will remember him for his willing sacrifices and tender care for the needs of his family, which was motivated by a love for God and a sense of duty to his loved ones. He had a great delight in his children and grandchildren. He also expressed his concern relative to the spiritual welfare of his family.

The Lord suddenly called him out of this life to his heavenly reward on June 20, 1963 at about 9:30 a.m. in a car-pickup accident. He reached the age of 63 years five months and eight days.

He leaves to mourn his sudden departure, his deeply bereaved wife; two daughters, Elsie (Mrs. Herb Ratzlaff) of Corn, and Mildred (Mrs. Norman Wickert) of Fairview; three sons, John and Roy of Weatherford, and Allen of Denver, Colo.; two daughters-in-law and two sons-in-law, nine grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Vogt of Corn, and Mrs. Dave Penner of Bakersfield, Calif.; three brothers, Sam P. Kliewer of Clinton, Dave Kliewer of Oklahoma city, and J. P. Kliewer, Reedley, Calif., and a host of relatives and friends. — The Mother and Children.
