PETER W. KLIEWER

Peter Wilhelm Kliewer, son of Peter and Eva Kliewer, was born October 3, 1873, in the village of Waldheim in the Taurine Province, South Russia. In 1878 at the age of five years his parents emigrated to America and settled at Burrton, Kansas. Later they moved to McPherson, Kansas where he received his schooling in primary grades. His parents then moved to Hutchinson, Kansas, where he found employment in the salt works.

In the year of 1893, December 28, he united in holy wedlock with Mary Zerger in Hutchinson, Kansas.

In March, 1895, they moved to Corn, Oklahoma where they experienced the pioneer years and also came to know the Lord through faith. After some years they moved to Caddo county, where they lived for ten years. It was there in 1905 that they were baptized upon their confession of faith and accepted as members into the Mennonite Brethren church. In the year 1913 they moved on a farm six miles south and one-half east of Corn and united with the Corn Mennonite Brethren church, of which he remained a faithful member to the end.

Because a storm destroyed their home April 9, 1944, they moved to the town of Corn, where he lost his companion through death. This caused him much loneliness. They had the privilege to enjoy life together nearly 52 years. After her departure he made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Carl Harris, and Mr. Harris.

To this union were born seven children. He leaves to mourn five sons and two daughters: Mrs. M. K. Kroeker, Premont, Texas; Mrs. Carl F. Harris, Seminole, Oklahoma; Herbert A Kliewer, Corn, Oklahoma; Albert J. Kliewer, Easley, South Carolina; M. H. Kliewer, Cordell, Oklahoma; George P. Kliewer, Weatherford, Oklahoma; K. J. Kliewer, Corn, Oklahoma; two sons-in-law, five daughters-in-law, fifteen grandchildren, one great-grandchild, four brothers, and two sisters.

He reached the age of 74 years three months and eight days.

We mourn because of his passing, which is much too soon; however as we think of his peaceful and quiet departure, we would say, "tis not death, but a triumphant victory over death." And we rejoice to look forward to that time when we shall meet our dear father in the eternal happiness. — The Children.
