MRS. LIZZIE KLIEWER

Lizzie Kliewer, daughter of David and Henrietta Karber, was born on July 30, 1880 in Marion County, Kansas, and went to be with her Lord on Sept. 21, 1971 at Fairview, Okla., having reached the age of 91 years, one month and 22 days.

Her youth was spent on the farm with her parents near Marion, Kan. Under the evangelistic ministry of Rev. Peter Wedel, both she and her father came under conviction of their lost condition and accepted Christ as their personal Saviour. They were baptized on March 18, 1894. The following day mother and her parents began the long journey by covered wagon to establish a new home on the Cherokee Strip southeast of Fairview, Okla. She, with her older sister, drove the cattle on foot most of the way.

On Oct 12, 1899, she married Abraham A. Kliewer. This union was blessed with 12 children. Our parents spent their entire married life on a farm southeast of Fairview. Although on one occasion they lost their house and contents by fire, experienced much sickness and even death in the family, they maintained a close devotional life with their Lord.

Mother was active in Sunday school and the Women’s Missionary Service. Father served as deacon in the church for many years, and she faithfully assisted him in many ways. At the time of her death, Mrs. Kliewer was a member of the Mennonite Brethren Church of Fairview. She was the last charter member of the Old South Church whom the Lord called home.

On Oct. 12, 1949, our parents celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their family and many friends. On June 21, 1950, our father was taken to his eternal reward. Mother then moved to Fairview. The last eight years she was a resident of the Fairview Fellowship Home.

She was preceded in death by her husband; three sons, Benjamin, David and Stanley; one daughter, Martha, and husband A. L. Epp; and four grandchildren.

She leaves to mourn her passing five sons and their wives, A. B. and Marie Kliewer, Edwin and Mary Kliewer, Herbert and Inez Kliewer, all of Fairview, Jonah and Mary Kliewer of Isabella, Okla., and Ruben and Willodine Kliewer of Topeka. Kan.; three daughters and their husbands, Bienna and P. V. Bartel, Marietta and Ben Warkentin, Elda and Marvin Neufeld, all of Fairview; two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Martha Kliewer of Fresno, Calif. and Mrs. Mabel Thiessen and husband Walter of Fairview; 42 grandchildren, 89 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Henrietta Cornelsen and Mrs. Eva Wichert, both of Fairview, and Mrs. Tena Unruh of Blaine, Wash., as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

We take comfort in the assurance that mother has gone to be with her Lord and look forward to meeting her in his presence. — The Kliewer Family.
