ALBERT KLIEWER

Albert Kliewer of Winnipeg passed away on July 12. He was born to Franz and Anna Kliewer (nee Bartel) on August 24, 1898 in Poland, and grew up in the village of Kasun. During the First World War he served for a short time as a kitchen chef in the Polish Army. Through his brother Rudolf he later accepted Christ as his personal Saviour and fellowshipped with a group of believers in Kasun, led by Edmund Jantz. He was bap· tized at the MB Church at Wymyschle in 1924, and married Elsa Kliewer of Wymyschle in October 1925. In 1935 they moved to Kicin and joined the local Baptist church. Elsa died in May 1933, and he married her sister Sara in 1934. At the start of World War II, he was taken from his family by the Polish government for 14 days, and toward the end of the war the family was scattered for more than six months. By October 1945 the family was together in Luebeck, Germany. In 1948 they immigrated to Manitoba, settling first near Winkler and worshipping at the Gnadenthal MB Church. In 1950 they moved to Win nipeg and joined the North End MB Church (later Elmwood'. They joined the Central (Winnipeg' MB Church in 1971.

His wife and family mourn his death and remember him as a pillar of faith. He is survived by his wife Sara; son Albert and wife Joanne, Thamesford, Ont.; three daughters and their husbands: Frieda and John Rempel, Osborne, Man., Ruth and Nick Schmidt, Southfield, Michigan, Irmgard and Ken Doerksen, Winnipeg; twelve grandchildren and one sister.
