MRS.. CHRIS KLASSEN

Marie Boese Klassen of Rt. 2, Newton, Kan. was born to Henry W. and Maria (Goossen) Boese on Oct. 25, 1901 in Marion County, Kansas. On June 28, 1902, her father preceded her in death. On June 10, 1903, her mother married Henry D. G. Schmidt.

Mother received her elementary education at the Good Hope School. When she was 18 she received catechism instruction. She was baptized upon her confession of faith in Jesus Christ as her Savior by Elder P. H. Unruh and became a member of the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church near Goessel, Kan. on June 8, 1919. She remained a faithful member until her death.

On April 28, 1928 she was joined in holy matrimony to Christoph Klassen. To this union were born four sons: Eldon of Newton, Ruben and Harold of the home, and Anton of Denver, Colo. Mother always gave and never asked for anything in return. As Harold was never able to completely take care of himself, she spent many loving hours helping him.

On April 28, 1963 mother and father were blessed by being able to celebrate 35 years of sharing life's joys and sorrows by having an open hours. Another joyful event in her life was the marriage of Anton to Patsy Krehbiel last November.

In recent years mother did not enjoy the best of health. On the morning of Feb. 15, 1964, she unexpectedly suffered a stroke and was taken to Bethel Deaconess Hospital, Newton. In spite of all the efforts of the doctor and nurses, she quietly went to her eternal home at 7:30 p.m. Mother reached the age of 62 years, three months and 21 days.

She leaves to mourn her departure her beloved husband, Christoph, and her children; three sisters, Mrs. John Klassen of Rt. 2, Newton, Mrs. George A. Schroeder of Rt. 2, Newton, and Mrs. Ernst Duerksen of Rt. 2, Hillsboro; two brothers, Henry M. Schmidt and Jacob P. Schmidt, both of Rt. 2, Hillsboro; and many other relatives and friends. One sister, Martha, Mrs. George Janzen, preceded her in death August 12, 1947.

The members of the Newton Council for Retarded Children join the family in expressing a feeling of deep loss in the sudden departure of a faithful member. For the cause of the retarded she has sown abundantly. The family requests that those who wish to may contribute to a memorial fund in her memory in the Newton Council for Retarded Children. — The Chris Klassen Family.
