Jacob H. Klassen, son of John P. and Sara Heinrichs Klassen, was born on Jan. 17, 1882 [sic 1892] near Canton, Kan.

He was baptized by Rev. Peter J. Krause on June 11, 1911 and accepted into the Mennonite church in Lehigh, Kan.

He was married to Lena Krause on July 18, 1915. Together they experienced the joys and sorrows of life for over 32 years until her passing on Aug. 5, 1947. To this union were born three sons and one daughter: Oswald, Hershel, Oliver, and Luella.

In 1926 the family moved to the Elbing, Kan. community and in 1927 he and mother transferred their church membership to the Zion Mennonite Church. Here he held various offices.

He made his living by farming and carpenter work until retirement. In the last years of his life he also helped out at the elevator, which he enjoyed very much.

On March 7 he entered Bethel Deaconess Hospital and on the 14th he submitted to surgery, from which he never fully recovered. He departed to be with his Lord and Saviour on April 7, 1968.

Father was much concerned about the welfare of his family and prayed often for children and grandchildren. his pleasant disposition helped us over many difficulties.

In addition to his widow, Agathe, he leaves to mourn his passing his children, Oswald with Hilda and family of Elbing; Herschel with Mildred and family of Whitewater; Oliver with Rosella and family of Elbing; Luella with John Grey and family, Fountain Valley, Calif.; two brothers-in-law, Henry Nuss of Newton and John Andres of Elbing; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Thresa McComb of Topeka and Anna Andres, Moundridge; 12 grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
