MRS. AGNETHA FREY KLASSEN

Our dear mother, Mrs. Agnetha (Reimer) Frey Klassen, daughter of Johann and Agnetha (Boese) Reimer, was born on July 21, 1881 in McPherson County, Kansas. When she was 12 years of age her father passed away and she was unable to complete her schooling because of responsibilities in the home. However, she furthered her education by much reading and diligent study of the Bible. Mission work was near and dear to her heart, and she gave sacrificially for this cause.

She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior, was baptized upon confession of her faith on May 21, 1899 by Elder Peter Balzer and became a member of the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church.

On April 24, 1902, she was united in holy matrimony with our father, Peter Frey. To this union were born seven daughters and four sons, of whom one son and one daughter died in infancy. After her marriage mother transferred her membership to the Tabor Church. She was active in the mission society, was a Sunday school teacher for many years and especially enjoyed the work with the younger children. She enjoyed doing things for others and showed great hospitality to friends and neighbors.

After 31 years of sharing joys and sorrows, father passed away in July 1933. She filled the lonely years that followed in service for others, caring for the aged and sick, always maintaining a cheerful disposition. After taking up residence in Goessel, she transferred her membership to the Goessel Mennonite Church.

In October 1950 she was married to Jacob J. Klassen, with whom she shared three and one-half happy years. He preceded her in death in March 1954.

On Dec. 11, 1959 mother suffered several heart attacks which left her in a weakened condition. After 11 weeks of hospitalization, she returned to her home where she received loving care from Elma Voth and later Mrs. John Klassen. She entered the Bethesda Home in Goessel in March 1962 where she peacefully passed away on Nov. 20, 1962. She reached the age of 81 years, three months, and 16 days.

She was also preceded in death by one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Elma Woelk Frey, one grandchild, Sheldon Frey; one great grandchild, Magen Diana Unruh; two sisters and three brothers.

Remaining to miss her, but rejoicing in her entrance into glory, are her children, Art and Emma Frey, Mathilda and Dave Buller, Armond [sic Armand] and Hulda Frey, Marletta and Frank Toews, John and Mae Frey, Theresa and Harlow Schmidt, Dorothy and Arnold Schmidt, all of Newton, Ruth and Henry Esau of Turlock, Calif., Martha and Richmond Schroeder of Newton; 28 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; one brother Henry J. Reimer; one sister, Mrs. Anna Quiring; three sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; three step-children; 12 step-grandchildren, and 12 step-great-grandchildren.

The memorial service was held at the Goessel Mennonite Church on Nov. 23, 1962, with Rev. Levi Koehn and Rev. P. A. Wedel officiating. Interment was made in the church cemetery.
