Vater Peter P. Klassen, Sohn von Peter und Katherina Dueck Klassen, wurde geboren am 16. Februar 1867 im Dorfe Elisabethal, Süd Rußland. Er war der jüngste von 5 Geschwistern. Seine 2 Brüder Johann und Jakob und auch seine 2 Schwestern, Anna, Frau Peter P. Unruh, und Maria, Frau Peter Buller, sind ihm im Tode vorangegangen. 1879 kam er mit Eltern und Geschwistern nach Marion County, Kansas. Eine Wirtschaft übernahmen die Eltern später und haben die übrige Zeit ihres Lebens dort gewohnt. Am 10. Juni 1889 wurde er auf das Bekenntnis seines Glaubens von Aeltester Jakob Buller getauft und in die Alexanderwohl Gem. aufgenommen wo er Glied blieb. Am 3. März 1898 heiratete er Agneta Richert. Missionar Heinrich Voth vollzog die Trauhandlung. Ihr Trautext war Psalm 23:3 “Er erquicket meine Seele; Er führt mich auf rechter Straße um Seines Names willen.” In dieser Ehe wurden ihnen 6 Söhne geboren. Fast 47 Jahre durften die Eltern die Freuden und Gottes Segnungen im heiligen Ehestand genießen. Am 5. Januar 1940 starb die liebe Mutter und seitdem hat sich Vater sehr einsam gefühlt. Zwar ist sein Leben nicht ohne Sorgen und Kummer gewesen; doch war er sehr getrost und fügte sich gerne in den Weg den Gott ihn führte. Durch den Glauben, daß Jesus auch seine Sünden auf sich genommen und bezahlt hat durch Sein Leiden und Sterben, hat Vater die Furcht des Todes überwunden. Er freute sich schon, bald von seinem Leiden erlöst zu werden. Vater nahm diesen Sommer immer ab, hatte aber nicht Schmerzen und konnte gut schlafen. Am 19. November bekam er einen Herzanfall und eine Woche später wurde er auch an der Leber krank. Am 19. Dezember wurde er zum Bethesda Hospital genommen. Trotz bester Pflege von allen verschlimmerte sich sein Zustand. Jedoch entschlief er sanft um 8:10 Uhr morgens am 28. Dezember, 1944 im Alter von 77 J. 10 M. und 12 Tagen. Er hinterläßt die trauernden Kinder wie folgt: Heinrich und Peter daheim, Christoph und Marie Boese Klassen, Otto und Linda Hiebert Klassen, John und Elisabeth Schmidt Klassen, Rudolph A. und Selma Strauß Klassen alle Newton, Kansas, und sieben Großkinder. Auch überleben ihn folgende Schwäger und Schwägerinnen: Rev. und Mrs. Peter Buller, Abraham Boese, Mr. und Mrs. P. H. Schroeder, Sister Margaret Richert, Rev. und Mrs. P. H. Richert, Rev. und Mrs. P. A. Penner, Mrs. Sara Richert, Professor und Mrs. D. H. Richert, Mr. und Mrs. John J. Richert und Rev. und Mrs. H. D. Epp und viele Freunde. Wir trauern, aber nicht als solche die keine Hoffnung haben, denn Vater sagte er hatte Frieden it Gott und fürchtete sich nicht vor dem Sterben.

Du wollt’st allein nicht gehen, nicht einen Schritt
Ich hab erhört dein Flehen, und nahm dich mit.

Du lerntest still vertrauen. Nun reit’s dich nicht:

— A large funeral took place Monday afternoon at the Alexanderwohl church near Goessel when P. P. Klassen, 78 year old pioneer of that community, was taken to his final earthly resting place there. Mr. Klassen died at the Bethesda Hospital in Goessel at 8:10 Thursday morning, Dec. 28, after an illness of several weeks. He was born in Russia, but emigrated to this country with his parents in his youth and lived in the Hillsboro and Geossel communities all the rest of his life. After the death of his wife nearly five years ago, he continued to live on the family homestead in the West-Alexanderwohl neighborhood with his two unmarried sons. Funeral services at the church were conducted by Rev. P. A. Wedel, who was assisted by Dr. P. A. Penner of Newton. Appropriate selections of music were presented by Dr. A. K. Ratzlaff, who sang a solo, and by a men's quartet of the church.

Interment was in the nearby cemetery. Six sons, four with their wives and families, as well as many relatives and friends, mourn the passing of Grandfather Klassen.

PETER P. KLASSEN

Peter P. Klassen, son of Peter and Katheirne Dueck Klassen, was born February 16, 1867, in the village of Elizabethal, South Russia.

He was the youngest of the family of five children. His two brothers, John and Jacob, and the two sisters, Anna (Mrs. P. P. Unruh) and Mary (Mrs. Peter Buller) preceded him in death.

At the age of 12 years in 1879, he emigrated to America with his parents and brothers and sisters and the parents bought a farm in Marion county, Kansas. Later this farm became the home of our parents and they resided there for the rest of their lives.

On March 3, 1893, he was joined in marriage to Aganetha Richert by Missionary H. R. Voth, who used for the wedding text Psalms 23:3, "He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake." Six sons were born to this union. the parents were privileged to share the joys and sorrows to holy matrimony for nearly 47 years.

After his wife died on January 5, 1940, he was very lonesome. He had many problems to solve and burdens to bear, but humbly submitted to God's will. By the faith that his sins were forgiven by the atoning death of Christ, he overcame the fear of death and was glad that he would soon be released from all suffering to be with the loved ones in glory.

This last summer his health was failing. He suffered a heart attack on November 19 and a week later also liver trouble set in. From then on he was very sick, but he was thankful that he did not have much pain. He was taken to the Bethesda Hospital on December 19, where he received the best of care. The last few days he suffered great pain but in a peaceful slumber he went to his eternal home at 8:10 a. m., Thursday, December 28, 1944, attaining the age of 77 years, 10 months and 12 days.

He leaves to mourn his departure the following children: Henry and Peter of the home, Christoph and Marie Boese Klassen, Otto and Linda Hiebert Klassen, John and Elizabeth Schmidt Klassen, Rudolph A. and Selma Strauss Klassen, all of Newton, Kansas; and seven grandsons.

He is also survived by the following brother- and sisters-in--law Rev. and Mrs. Peter Buller, Abraham Boese, and Mr. and Mrs. P. H. Schroeder, Sister Margaret Richert, all of Goessel, Kansas; Rev. and Mrs. P. H. Richert, Rev. and Mrs. P. A. Penner, Mrs. Sara Richert, Professor and Mrs. D. H. Richert, all of Newton, Kansas; Mr. and Mrs. John J. Richert, Wichita; Rev. and Mrs. H. D. Epp, Henderson, Nebraska, and many other relatives and friends.

     Fully and freely the choice I have made
I will follow Him.
     Walking by faith where my eyes cannot see
I will follow Jesus.
     Holding the hand that was wounded for me,
I will follow Him.
