PETER I. KLASSEN
Peter I. Klassen passed away in his home in Herbert, Sask. on March 6 at the age of 85 years. He was born in Osterwick, Russia on November 21, 1889. At age 15 he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour and later followed the Lord in baptism.
In 1907 he came to Canada with his parents, to Manitoba, and in 1909 he moved to Saskatchewan where he homesteaded in the Kelstern district. In 1914 he married Eva Rempel at Kelstern and farmed there until they retired in 1947, moving to Herbert where they have lived until his death.
He was an active member in the Herbert Mennonite Brethren Church. For 18 years he was secretary-treasurer and for five years he was director of MCC material aid.
They had the privilege of celebrating their sixtieth wedding anniversary together with all their children on August 4, 1974.
He leaves to mourn his wife, Eva; one daughter Martha and her husband Lawrence Redekopp of Lanigan, Sask.; five sons: Peter and Helen of Kelstern, Jake and Martha of Moose Jaw, Henry and Carolyn of Moose Jaw, John and Phyllis of Fort St. John, B.C., and Dave and Ann of Kelstern; 19 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; three brothers and one sister. He was predeceased by one daughter, Eva, one grandchild, Jimmy, one brother and two sisters.
