MAN DROWNED WHILE BOATING

Winnipeg, Man. — John P. Klassen, 29, an employee of the Supercrete Company here, drowned while boating, at Dorothy Lake on the Winnipeg River with his brother-in-law, John Neufeld.

Losing his balance, he fell out of the boat and sank in deep water. Days after the tragedy his body was not yet recovered.

He is survived by his wife, the former Elva Neufeld, and two small children.

Accidents from East To Midwest Cause Five Deaths, Injuries to Many

Tragedy again stalked the highways, farms and homes of Mennonite communities from East to the Midwest within recent weeks as accidents claimed an unusually heavy toll of dead and seriously injured.

Accident reports received by the Review in the past week included the following:

Kalona, Iowa. — Traffic accidents have claimed the lives of two Kalona area residents.

Paul D. Gingerich, Jr., 19-year-old son of Paul and Viola (Miller) Gingerich, was instantly killed Aug. 14 when the tractor he was driving on th highway north of Kalona was hit by a semi-trailer truck and flipped over into the ditch.

Funeral services were held at the Sunnyside Conservative Mennonite Church here. Survivors include the parents, four sisters and four brothers.

Services for Edith Fern White, 40, killed instantly when her auto was hit by a skidding truck near Brighton, Iowa, were held Aug. 7 at the West Union Mennonite Church near here. Miss White's mother, Mrs. Magdalena White escaped serious injury in the crash.

Horse Ride Proves Fatal

Newport News, Va. — Twelve-year-old Susan Ann Ziegler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth W. Ziegler, was fatally injured Aug 19 while riding a horse in the vicinity of her home. Evidence indicated that she had ducked under one metal clothesline but was hit in the neck by a second line. Funeral services were held at the Warwick River Mennonite Church. In addition to her parents she leaves one sister, two brothers, and the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Nice and Mr. and Mrs. William A. Ziegler.

Gruthal, Man. — The Elim Mennonite Church here was filled to overflowing on Aug. 18 as funeral services were held for John P. Klassen, 29, who drowned Aug. 11 while fishing on Dorothy Lake. The body was recovered five days later. Survivors include his wife, the former Alva Neufeld, and parents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter D. Klassen.

Young Father Killed

New Holland, Pa. — Edward N. Good, 21, father of a nine-month-old son was instantly killed when his car was crushed between a truck and a tractor trailer north of Ephrata. Besides his son he leaves his wife, the former Vera Zimmerman, his mother and a number of brothers and sisters.

The largely attended funeral services were held Aug. 19 at the Weaverland Mennonite Church.
