Mrs. Emma C. Klassen, 87, a former Newton resident and retired registered nurse, died June 20 at the Halstead Nursing Center. She had been a resident of the center since 1976. Funeral services were held June 23 at the First Mennonite Church of Newton of which she was a member. Andrew J. Shelly officiated. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery. Born Apr. 6, 1895 to Henry and Grace Letkemann Hanke, she married Dietrich G. Klassen Jan. 31, 1948. He died in 1952. Survivors include five brothers, Elmer, Henry, Herman, Irvin and Harry Hanke, all of Newton; and two sisters, Edith Hanke of Newton and Mrs. Esther Dirksen of Iron Mountain, Mich.
