Mother, Son Killed In Crash at Goessel

Goessel, Kan. — A two-car crash near here Sunday evening claimed the lives of Mrs. Orville Klassen, 47, and her seven-year-old son, Douglas Roy, of Route 2, Canton.

They were passengers in a car driven by the husband and father when it was hit by a car driven by Mrs. Leo Anzieck of Kansas City, Kan. at the intersection one mile north of the Goessel west corner. Mrs. Klassen and son were pronounced dead upon arrival at Bethel Hospital in Newton. Mr. Klassen suffered a serious chest injury but is expected to recover.

Mrs. Klassen was the former Beatrice Marie Fry, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Fry of Hutchinson. Besides her husband and parents, she leaves three brothers and sisters. Douglas was a second grader at the Goessel Grade School.

Double funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at the Goessel Mennonite Church, of which Mrs. Klassen was a member.

DOUGLAS KLASSEN

Betty Fry Klassen was born on Sept. 22, 1928 in Hutchinson, Kan., and passed away on Sunday, Oct. 24, as the result of an accident.

She grew up in Hutchinson and attended school there. She graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1947. For ten years she was employed by the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company.

Betty was married to Orville Klassen in 1958 in Hutchinson. They had lived on a farm near Goessel since that time.

Their son, Douglas Ray, was born at Newton, Kan. on Dec. 20, 1963. He died on Oct. 24 at the age of seven years as a result of the same accident that claimed the life of his mother. Douglas was in the second grade at Goessel Grade School at the time of his death. He is survived by his father and his grandparents, Mrs. John Klassen of Goessel and Mr. and Mrs. Claude Fry of Hutchinson.

Betty was converted as a young child. She served God faithfully and was active in her church until the time of her death. She was a member of the Goessel Mennonite Church.

She is survived by her widower; parents, Mr. and Mrs C. E. Fry of Hutchinson; thee brothers, LeRoy Fry of Hesston, Kan., Elmer Fry and Gilbert Fry of Oklahoma City, Okla.; thee sisters, Mrs. Ray Wilhite of Hutchinson, Georgia Mae Fry of Kansas City, Kan., and Mrs. Floyd Hess of Iola, Kan.
