Klaassen. — Am 12. März bei Bessie, Okla., Maria Klaassen, geb. Hamm, im Alter von 74 Jahren, 4 Monaten und 21 Tagen…. Am 18. Oktober 1855 verehelichte sie sich mit Martin Klaassen, Glied der Mennoniten-Gem. zu Köppenthal bei Saratow. In der Ehe gelebt mit ihrem, auf religiösem Gebiet ungemein wirksam gewesenen Gatten, 26 Jahre; letzterer starb am 25. Nov. 1881 nach etwa 3 Monaten Krankheit. 1884 ausgewandert nach Amerika. Die letzten 9 Jahre wohnte die, wie wir fest hoffen, selig Verstorbene, im Hause ihrer Kinder Jakob Janzen. Am 21. Febr. d. J. unterhielt sie noch in unsrer Gemeinde mit das hl. Abendmahl. Den 29. Febr. erkrankte sie an Luftröhrenentzündung, der sie auch trotz ärztlicher Hilfe und treuer Pflege, erlag. Sie hinterläßt 2 Söhne, 1 Schwiegersohn, 1 Tochter, 2 Schwiegertöchter und 15 Enkelkinder nebst vielen Verwandten und Freunden. Vier ihrer Kinder sind ihr voran gegangen. Die Beerdigung fand unter reicher Beteiligung und Teilname auf dem Herald-Friedhofe am 14. März statt. Leichenrede hielt, auf besondern Wunsch der Verstorbenen und Familie, Ältester der Newton Gemeinde Jakob Toews, in der Herald Kirche. Haupttext: “Die mit Tränen säen,” u.s.w. — Psalm 126. Eine kurze Ansprache im Trauerhause hielt noch Pred. Johann Peters von der Bergtal Gemeinde. (Obiges aus Versehen etwas verspätet. — Ed.)

Klaassen. — On March 12 at Bessie, Oklahoma, Maria Klaassen, nëe Hamm, at the age of 74 years, 4 months and 21 days…. On October 18, 1855, she married Martin Klaassen, a member of the Mennonite congregation at Köppenthal near Saratov. She was married for 26 years to her husband, who was immensely effective in the religious field; the latter died on Nov. 25, 1881, after an illness of about 3 months. Emigrated to America in 1884. For the last 9 years the blessed deceased, as we firmly hope, lived in the home of her children, the Jakob Janzens. On February 21 of this year, she still celebrated Holy Communion in our congregation. On February 29, she fell ill with tracheitis, to which she succumbed despite medical help and faithful care. She is survived by 2 sons, 1 son-in-law, 1 daughter, 2 daughters-in-law and 15 grandchildren, along with many relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by four of her children. The funeral took place at the Herald Cemetery on March 14 with a rich attendance and participation. The elder of the Newton congregation, Jakob Toews, delivered the funeral sermon at the special request of the deceased and his family in the Herald Church.
