• Relatives at Hesston received word that Frank D. King, 77, died on Monday at Goshen, Ind. Mr. King was employed by the Newton Ice Co. here in the early 20s and for many years was an executive of the parent firm, Railways Ice Co. in Chicago. Among the surviving brothers and sisters are Mrs. Emma Risser and Alvin B. King, both of Hesston. The funeral is to be held Thursday afternoon at the Goshen College Church.

Services for Retired Railroad Executive Held at Goshen

Goshen, Ind. — Funeral services for Frank D. King, 77, retired railroad executive and well-known lay leader in the Mennonite Church, were held June 8 at the Goshen College Mennonite Church, Rev. John Mosemann, the pastor, and Rev. A. E. Kreider officiated.

King died at the Goshen Hospital on June 5, several days after undergoing major surgery. He had been ill only a short time.

A native of Larned, Kan., King was employed by the Railways Ice and Service Co. in Chicago from 1909 to 1957. He was executive vice-president and general manager at retirement and moved to Goshen in 1956. While in Chicago he was active in a number of civic groups and in the Union Avenue Mennonite Church.

During his retirement years here he was active in business and community service organizations, held places of leadership in the Goshen College Church, and was on the board of Greencroft Villa, new retirement home here. He served as president of the Elkhart County Council on Aging.

Surviving are his widow, the former Laura Smith; a daughter, Mrs. C. Richard (Edith) Yoder of Elkhart; one son, Harold S. of Atlanta, Ga.; eight grandchildren; four brothers and three sisters.

FRANK D. KING

Frank D. King, 77, of Goshen, Ind. died unexpectedly on June 5 at the Goshen General Hospital after undergoing extensive abdominal surgery on Friday, June 2.

A native of Larned, Kan., Mr. King was born Feb. 4, 1890. He married Laura Smith June 17, 1915. They lived in Chicago for many years where Mr. King was employed by the Railways Ice & Service Company from 1909 to 1957. He worked his way to the position of executive vice president and general manager, which he held at the time of the retirement in 1956 when he moved to Goshen.

During his retirement years here, Mr. King was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, served three years on the Greater Goshen Association board of directors, seven years on the United Community Services of Elkhart County board and as chairman of the budget committee. He was an honorary member of the Goshen Rotary Club and a charter member of the Maplecrest Country Club.

Mr. King was a member of the College Mennonite Church serving for six years as president of the board of trustees and as a member of the church council. He was a member of the Elkhart County Retirement Community that founded Greencroft Villa, of which he was a member of the board of directors. He was past president of the Elkhart County Council on Aging.

Mr. King also was an active executive and church leader in Chicago. He was a member of the National Association of Refrigeration Engineers in Chicago and was an active member for 40 years of the Union Avenue Mennonite Church, holding many positions in the church.

He was active also in a number of civic groups in Chicago, and was a life member and officer of the Chicago Executives club.
