King, Ezra W. (1888-1934)
Mennonite Weekly Review obituary: 1934 Dec 12 p. 4
Birth date: 1888
. . .
— This community suffered the distint [sic] loss of a capable and influential citizen last Wednesday in the passing of Ezra W. King of Hesston. Mr. King had been confined in the Bethel hospital for a number of weeks, suffering from Hodgkin's disease, but was removed to a Wichita hospital several days preceding his death. Mr. King had been a long friend of the Herald Publishing Co. and was a frequent caller here. As a bridge building contractor he had gained state-wide recognition for efficiency and ability in his line of business. it was, however, more than this that made his life an object of particular interest and influence in business circles, in community projects, and in church activities — his quiet determination to live out his spiritual convictions in his daily business transactions. An eastern newspaper reported of him as a man whose bridge gang neither smokes nor uses profanity, who had a good standing with his employees, and whose work is of the highest rank. Mr. King reached the age of 46 years. Funeral services held at the Pennsylvania church near Hesston on Friday afternoon were largely attended. The services were conducted by Rev. D D. Zook of Hesston and Rev. M. D. Landis of Enid, Okla. The deceased is survived by his eight children, his wife, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. B. King of Hesston, a number of brothers and sisters, and a large circle of friends whose lives have been enriched by contact with him.
