— Dr. Alvin Jon King, 89, retired piano teacher and choir director, died Jan. 13 at Schowalter Villa in Hesston. He had lived at Hesston for the past five years. The body was sent to Millsap College, Jackson, Miss., where funeral services and burial took place Friday afternoon. A memorial service was held Friday forenoon at the Hesston Mennonite Church, conducted by Rev. Peter Wiebe and Rev. James Hershberger. During his long career as a music teacher Dr. King taught in the Jackson public schools, at Millsap College and Wood Junior College. He organized the Millsap Singers and directed the group for 15 years. In 1950 Millsap College awarded him an honorary degree of doctor of humanities. He leaves a sister, Mrs. Elsie Bauhof of Wooster, Ohio, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
