ISAAC A. KEHN
Isaac A. Kehn, son of August and Susie Kehn, was born in McPherson County, Kan., Dec. 31, 1881. He departed this life July 15, 1957, in his home at Montezuma, Kan. Hhe reached the age of 75 years, six months and 15 days. His death was caused by coronary occlusion.
In the early years of his life he moved with his parents to Marion County, Kan. In 1912 he purchased a farm west of Montezuma, Kan. He and his family lived there until they moved into Montezuma in November 1949.
On June 27, 1915, he was married to Mary Ratzlaff. To this union two daughters were born. Just a little more than seven years after their marriage, on Jan. 24, 1923, his wife was taken from his side by death. On June 1, 1924 he was married to Annie Nightingale. Two daughters were born to this second union.
As a young man our father sought the salvation of his soul. Upon his faith in God, and remission of sins through Jesus Christ, he was baptized and became a member of the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite on June 12, 1904.
Father was injured in an accident in 1922. This caused partial blindness and deafness. This condition became worse as time went on until it rendered him totally blind and very hard of hearing the last four years of his life. About five years ago he developed a heart ailment. During the last years other complications also developed, until it became necessary to enter the hospital and have surgery performed from which he completely recovered.
Our father was industrious and loved his work. Even after becoming blind he still did little tasks in the home. However, his work did not cause him to forget God and eternal things. Often after a days work, he would read his Bible and sing for the family before retiring for the night. During the last years of his life he often expressed his desire to be at home with God. During these years of darkness and quietness he enjoyed to have others sing for him, especially those songs that bear the message of the "Sweet By and By." He prayed much for strength and patience to endure until his release. We are assured that our father has gone to that Home where he will see his Redeemer and hear the angels sing.
He leaves to mourn his departure his wife Annie; four daughters, Lena and Martha of Montezuma, Dessie (Mrs. Clifford Schmidt), Cimarron, Kan., and Minnie (Mrs. Arthur Koehn), Elbing, Kan.; and 12 grandchildren. Five brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
Funeral services were conducted July 18, 1957, at 10 a.m. at the North Mennonite Church at Montezuma, Kan. Rev. Daniel J. Koehn was in charge of the services and read Job 14:1-2, II Cor. 5:1-8, Rev. 21:4. The body was laid to rest in the nearby cemetery. — The Family.
