HELEN E. KAUFMAN
Helen E. Kaufman, daughter of Jacob S. and Mary (Goering) Kaufman, was born on Jan. 21, 1921, at Moundridge, Kansas, and departed this life through a fatal automobile accident Friday, Feb. 8, 1937 [sic 1957].
Helen grew up in the Moundridge community. She received her elementary education in the Grade School of Moundridge and on May 20, 1940, graduated from the Moundridge High School. On May 30, 1937, she publicly confessed her faith in her Saviour Jesus Christ, rededicated her life to Him, and was baptized and received as a member into the fellowship of the Eden Mennonite Church.
She loved children and in turn was lovely [sic] by them, especially her nieces and nephews. Her unique way of drawing children was a great asset to her as a Sunday School teacher in the Junior Department. The kindly spirit in which she participated in many church activities, and her willingness to help in any situation gained her many friends. The last three years she was employed at the Co-op Creamery in Moundridge.
She leaves to mourn her early departure her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob S. Kaufman; six sisters, Olga (Mrs. Carl Waltner), Gladys, Arlene (Mrs. Henry Ediger), Marilyn, Lucille, and Carol; five brothers, Alvin, Peter, Emil, Dan, and Kenneth; seven nieces, seven nephews, one grandniece and one grandnephew, and many relatives and friends. One nephew, Larry Kaufman, preceded her in death, likewise due to an accident.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Feb. 11 in the Eden Mennonite Church, Rev. P. J. Dyck officiating. Music was furnished by a male quartet and the Eden Men's Chorus. Mrs. Erwin Goering served as organist. Burial was made in the Eden Mennonite cemetery.
