EMMA STUCKY KAUFFMAN [sic]

Emma Kauffman [sic], daughter of John Stucky and Freni Waltner Stucky, was born near Lucien, Okla., on Sept. 6, 1892. When she was seven years old, she with her family moved in a lumber wagon to a new home near Pretty Prairie, Kan. Here she spent her childhood and youth working with her brothers and sisters on the family farm. She attended Albion Grade School.

On June 14, 1908, she was baptized by J. J. Flickinger at First Mennonite Church, Pretty Prairie, where she remained a faithful and supportive member for more than 78 years.

In a double marriage ceremony on Aug. 31, 1910, she was married to Alfred J. Kaufman at the same time Emma Kaufman, her husband’s sister, was married to Henry P. Krehbiel.

Through precept and example, she and her husband sought to give their five children a Christian home.

She died Sept. 5, 1986, one day before her 94th birthday.

Her survivors include a daughter, Helen Albrecht of Pretty Prairie; a son and his wife, Waldo and Ethel of North Newton; a son-in-law, Fred A. Krehbiel of Pretty Prairie; one sister, Rose (Mrs, Philip A.) Wedel of Moundridge; seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, Menno and Herman; a daughter, Edna; a son-in-law, Harvey G. Albrecht; two brothers, Simon and Amos Stucky; and four sisters, Mary Graber, Lizzie Berger, Anna Krehbiel and Dora Gering.
