Daniel Kaufman

Daniel Kaufman, son of Jacob and Lena Kaufman, was born January 18th, 1856, in the province of Wohynien, Russia. He was baptized upon confession of faith March 25, 1871.

In the Exodus of the Mennonites from Russia in the year 1874 he also came to America to obtain religious freedom.

The pioneer days were confronted with many difficulties in material ways; and he also experienced many hardships. However his Master was with him and gave him prosperity.

On April 23, 1879 he was married to Carolina Krehbiel, daughter of Anna and John Krehbiel. A little son was born to this union who died immediately after birth. But this union was of short duration for on the 9th of June 1880 his wife was called to the beyond. But the Lord protected him and comforted him during these times of bereavement and sorrow.

In the year 1881, January 5th he was united in marriage to Catharine Goering, daughter of the deceased Jacob and Anna Goering. This union had a duration of 48 years, 9 months and 9 days; and was blessed with 10 children (6 boys and 4 girls). Four of the children have preceded him into the beyond during youth and infancy.

Although he was always healthy and active, yet the departing hour came for him also. Only a few weeks ago a serious ailment set in for which seemingly no medical aid could relieve. And after but a few weeks of suffering he was taken by the Master to see the Eternal Light. He died October 14, 1929 at the age of 73 years, 6 months and 27 days. He leaves to mourn his sudden departure his wife, six children, 24 grandchildren, 2 sisters and many relatives and friends.

He was a member of the Eden Mennonite Church and funeral services were held Wednesday, October 16th from the Eden Church. Rev. J. C. Goering of Arlington and Rev. Philip A. Wedel, spoke words of comfort. — Moundridge Journal.
