Construction Worker Fatally Injured in Fall from Silo

Goshen, Ind. — An 84-foot fall from a scaffolding May 22 while on a construction project in Illinois claimed the life of Alan Kaufman, 21, of Route 7, Goshen, it was learned here.

An employee of Gerber Monocrete Silos of New Paris, Kaufman and other employees reportedly were removing iron forms from a silo roof at a Cooksville, Ill grain firm when he fell through a hole in the scaffolding. He died about one hour later in a Bloomington hospital.

He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Kaufman of Sugarcreek, Ohio. Funeral services were held there on Sunday, with burial in the Kaufman Cemetery in Holmes County.
