Noah S. Kauffman, son of Samuel and Martha (Stutzman) Kauffman, was born in Elkhart County, Indiana on Dec. 30, 1875 and died at the Detwiler Memorial Hospital, Wauseon, Ohio, on July 25, 1969, age 93 years, six months and 23 days.

Noah lived in the Archbold, Ohio community for almost 75 years. His occupation was farming, first as a farm worker, later on his own farm for 45 years. He retired from farming about 24 years ago where he worked part-time for the Pettisville Packing co. for several years.

About four years ago he and his companion became residents of Fairlawn Haven, Archbold. About six months ago his health began to fail, and three weeks ago he suffered a fractured hip and was admitted to the Wauseon Hospital where he passed away on the evening of July 23.

As a young man Noah became a Christian by confession faith in Jesus Christ. He was baptized in the Mennonite Church and has been a faithful member of the Central congregation. At the time of his death he was the oldest member in the congregation.

On Dec. 23, 1900 Noah was married to Katie Burkholder. To this union were born seven sons and four daughters. In addition they took into their home a foster son. They shared the joys and sorrows of life for almost 46 years. Katie passed away on Aug. 2, 1946.

On April 1, 1951 Noah was married to Sylvia (Hostettler) Burkholder. Together they shared their retirement years and were able to travel to Florida to spend the winter months. In the last five years Sylvia required convalescent care and Noah was a faithful husband in doing all he could for her.

Noah was preceded in death by his wife, Katie; four daughters, Carrie, Eva, Delilah; two sons, Ralph and Lawrence; on [''sic''] foster son, Serril; one infant grandchild; one great-grandson; one foster grandson; and two brothers, Harvey and Clarence.

He leaves to mourn his departure his wife Sylvia; five sons, Orval of Wauseon, Ohio, Morris of Archbold, Ohio, Clair of West Liberty, Ohio, Kenneth of Hillsdale, Mich., and Herman of Archbold; 23 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; three foster grandchildren; two step-daughters, Audrey (Mrs. Everett Eagleson) of Lagrange, Ind., and Mildred (Mrs. Dale Nofziger) of Lynnwood, Wash.; one step-son, Darlo Mehl of Shipshewana, Ind.; 15 step-grandchildren; 34 step-great-grandchildren; 19 step great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Leonard, Ora and Vern, and two sisters, Libbey (Mrs. Ira Miller) and Edna (Mrs. Noble Showalter).

Funeral services were held at the Central Mennonite Church on July 26, conducted by Charles Gautsche and Ed B. Frey. Burial was made in the Pettisville Cemetery.
