Amish Youth Killed, Four Injured When Car and Truck Collide

Sugarcreek, Ohio. — A car carrying five teenage Amish youths collided headon with a milk truck on a township road near here Sunday, June 20, causing the death of John D. Kauffman, 19, driver of the car.

Hospitalized with serious injuries were Mervin Schlabach, 16, and Ervin N. Miller, 16, the latter suffering fractures of the pelvis and shoulder. Two other youths escaped with minor hurts, and the truck driver was uninjured.

The Kauffman youth was the son of Dan B. and Katie Kauffman of rural Dundee.
